Want to make your own Tree Skirt? Look no further! Have a go at making our sparkly and fluffy tulle skirt!
What you’ll need:
-
Tulle Fabric (Mine was in strips of 2 metres x 15cm)
-
Ribbon
-
White Cotton String
-
Needle
-
Scissors
-
Glue Gun
-
The first thing we want to do is measure around the bottom of your tree. Mine came up at 15cm so I’ll be making my tree skirt with a measurement of 20cm around the top.
-
Let’s start with one of the long sides. We will be gathering the whole strip of tulle to make a skirt. Cut off a piece of thread a bit longer than your first measurement so when we gather everything at the end, it’ll fit nice and snug.
-
Stitch along the long edge quite near the top using a long straight stitch.
-
Once you have stitched along the top don’t tie off the thread. Instead take the needle off and pull on the thread, pushing back the tulle whilst doing so.
-
Gather the tulle together to a rough measurement of 20cm (or to fit around the base of your tree) and secure the end of the thread.
-
Repeat this same step with more strips of tulle to build up the tree skirt. The more layers, the better it’ll look!
-
To join all of the layers together, I’ll be using a piece of ribbon which will tie around the base of the tree.
-
Glue your first layer onto the middle of the ribbon and leave to dry.
-
Now glue the rest of the layers on but stagger them down the first layer of tulle that you attached to create a tree skirt that flares out.
And you’re done! The only thing left to do now is to tie the skirt around the base of your tree! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial! If you have a go, don’t forget to send me your makes on twitter @aBoxofButtons and instagram @hann_lloyd. See you next week!
That’s so cute, Hannah! And it looks really easy too!
